Chant Come, Come Soft Winds, with the occasional diversion to Wengridh or Sight of their Comrades, for the boost to any defenses that are particularly relevant to what you're fighting. Wear the heaviest armor you can find and grab a hatchet and shield. Leave CON at average levels, and take your DEX as low as you dare.Įarly on, you're a tank. MIG for the damaging chants, as well as spellcasting from scrolls (using the class's Lore bonus) and spellbound items, PER to make sure they hit, and RES for dialogue options and to stay upright. After that, I'd prioritize MIG, PER, and RES roughly equally. INT is the highest priority, for AOE and duration of Phrases/Invocations. That makes them excellent for the front lines. The class is unique in that their core class ability (the Chant) is not affected by action-speed modifiers from armor or your DEX score. I favor front-line Chanters, and I like them to have some MIG. For example, the 1st-tier Spirit summon kicks ass against low level opponents on Normal, but tends to get flattened pretty quickly against PotD-boosted enemies. The reason being that summons are less effective on higher difficulties. Second, with Chanters particularly, the difficulty level matters a lot. The difference between high and average-ish scores can be noticeable, but only if you're looking closely.
